Scoring habit is Moffat's goal
Thursday, 9th Jul 2015Michael Moffat was pleased to get off the mark in his very first pre season friendly at Bayview on Saturday.
Michael admits that even though it was a friendly it is important to get into good habits:-
"Whether that's winning games or scoring goals, hopefully we can build on that and get a few more in pre season. It is great to be back playing games. Pre season has been pretty tough but it has been good, hopefully that is all the hard work done and the games are coming thick and fast.
"Every one is different. This one seems to be a lot of hard running, it maybe just gets more difficult every year that you get older! The boys have enjoyed it, there have been double sessions but it has been enjoyable. We have had the ball out in a lot of small games but you are still doing the work and we have been doing some gym work as well."
Fans and players alike were happy to see the back of season 2014-2015 and Michael voiced that sentiment saying:-
"It wasn't a good season, not good enough anybody involved. It is a fresh start this season and the first thing the manager said was to forget about last season. We had a long summer with time to reflect so it is good to get back into it. Now the hard work starts so that we are ready to go again."
The former Ayr United player has no problems with a former Kilmarnock manager becoming his new boss and he recalls playing against his team when it was Queen of the South:-
"They won the league by a mile that year and the football they played was great as well. They ran away with the league that year so hopefully they can come in and have the same kind of impact here.
"I think he likes to play a more natural 4-4-2 and I think he likes his wingers as well; a bit of pace attacking and when going forward."
Having played another 45 minutes against Partick Thistle in a closed doors match on Wednesday afternoon, Michael is keen to get into the competitive matches which will start with the Petrofac and then League cup ties away to Arbroath and at home to Cowdenbeath.
"Arbroath away is a good game to start the season with. We got a wee bit of luck after being seeded in the lower half of the League Cup draw to get a home tie. We played Brechin City in our first league game last season, it will be tough but they have had a lot of changes. They have lost a few of their players and hopefully we will go up there with a bit of confidence after a couple of good results in the cup.
"We know that we need to start the league better than we did last season because we only took one point out of the first two games last year. Hopefully we can get a good crowd for the derbies against Cowdenbeath at home."
The 30 year old striker is relishing the chance to strike up a partnership with Ryan Wallace. Ryan has returned to action after an injury plagued season and when the pair kicked the match off together last Saturday it was for only the second time ever. Indeed Ryan only start was in the Peterhead match on 3rd January.
"It is like having a new signing, hopefully his injuries are by him because I think me and him work well together when we play in training. It would be good if he can stay fit and he could be a massive player for us this season if he can and hopefully he does."
