New signing is a tall story
Thursday, 18th Jun 2015Dunfermline Athletic have successfully signed 23 year old central defender, Ben Richards-Everton on a one year deal.
Ben started his football career at Hinckley United and after two seasons there left to join Conference Premier side Tamworth. A move to Scotland followed that joining Partick Thistle on 22 August 2014 and immediately going out on loan to Airdrieonians. The six foot five Englishman made his Scottish League debut at East End Park in the Pars 3-0 win over Airdrieonians the following day.
After making 18 appearances for the Diamonds, Richards-Everton made his debut for Partick Thistle in March coming on as a ninetieth minute substitute in a 1-0 victory against Inverness Caley Thistle. In the Jags final match of the season he made his first start for Partick Thistle in a 0-0 draw with Motherwell playing the full 90 minutes only to be released.
In November 2013, Richards-Everton was called up to the England C squad, to face a Latvia U-23 side.
Ben was pleased that he made the move to East End Park. “This is a massive club, and having played here twice last season I knew it was a great stadium with passionate fans. I had other options down south but after speaking to the Manager and John I knew this was the right move and a step I wanted to take. I liked the ambition of the club and you can see that it is going places.” Having already being given the nickname “Big Ben” as he stands at nearly 6ft 5”, Ben feels his playing strengths are his aerial ability, pace and he can read the game well.
Manager, Allan Johnston just back from holiday was delighted to have signed Ben, having fought off competition from elsewhere. He stated
“I went to watch Ben at the end of the season when he played the full 90 minutes for Partick Thistle against Motherwell. I thought he played exceptionally well and handled a difficult player in John Sutton superbly.
"He is obviously big and strong, but he is quick as I want the team to play with pace this coming season. With Ben joining Jason (Talbot) and Callum (Fordyce) alongside Lewis Martin and Ryan Williamson it gives a good foundation in defence. We are still speaking to a number of different players and agents, and are now looking to strengthen the squad further forward, and of course between the sticks. ”
