Raffle Winner has Experience of a Lifetime
Tuesday, 12th May 2015The lucky winner of first prize in the Pars Supporters’ Trust Christmas raffle.
Prize winner, Ian Marchant, recently returned from his two night stay in Barcelona which included tickets for a match at the famous Camp Nou stadium. Ian chose to attend the La Liga match against Valencia given their association with the Pars dating back to the 60’s and that epic European tie.
We caught up with Ian on his return and asked how he had enjoyed his weekend in the Catalonian capital?
“The trip was outstanding and one of the major experiences of a lifetime. We arrived in plenty of time to take in the atmosphere. Before the game it was clear that Barca have a worldwide audience. Accents from the west and north of Scotland mingled with many others from the UK, Denmark, Holland, Germany, France, and Japan” Ian told us.
He continued “What a game. Almost 93,000 there and inside one minute Messi held off a challenge and slipped the ball through to Suarez - one nil. Then, in the 12th minute Pique made an awkward challenge in the box….penalty! The noise of tens of thousands whistling was incredible. Who could stay calm in that? The Barca keeper stepped to one side of the goal line offering a temptation to the penalty taker. He took it…the keeper readjusted dived and saved.
"Messi impressed with flashes of genius and then in the final minute of the game he was through on his own. He looked shattered as he made his way from the half way line. His attempted lob of the goalie was weak; it was parried but came back to him to put it away for his 400th goal for the club. What an atmosphere. It will live with me forever alongside my Pars memories.”
“The next day we went on the stadium tour, another incredible experience. The Heritage Trust has a long way to go to match the artefacts on display at Camp Nou! The tour of the ground was amazing and we enjoyed the opportunity to have our photo taken holding aloft the European Cup.
“A great weekend and something I hope will be on offer as a raffle prize for future PST fundraisers. It was all even better than I anticipated. I knew it was going to be good but......! Many thanks for organising this. Thanks to the PST and all the fans that made this possible.”
Congratulations once again to Ian and a huge thank you to everyone who supported the raffle which raised over £5,000. This made up part of the £15,000 which the PST recently handed over to DAFC, ensuring that the PST continues to be the single largest shareholder in Pars United.
