Fans deserve a win over Forfar

Friday, 24th Apr 2015

Josh Falkingham :- "A great fan base, great stadium - everything is ready to go but we need to do that on the park."

With two fixtures remaining Forfar arrive at East End Park in the kind of position that the Pars would have loved to have been in. After losing in two play off finals all the pre season talk was to avoid the play offs by winning the league. That is not the case and Josh Falkingham discussed the reason he considers caused that failure:-

"We have not performed well enough against the top teams, it is as simple as that. If we had won games against them, we would be in and about it as well. We haven't done it and we will try and rectify that on Saturday. We have got to do that for the fans because that is what they deserve. They have had to watch some dire games and some poor performances.

"This year has been frustrating, it has been disappointing but we have to take responsibility for that ourselves. We know where we are, it has not been good enough.

"A lot of fans are confused as to why that happened. Normally when the going gets tough that is the reason but it has been a frustrating season because in a lot of the games we have dominated large periods. It sounds strange but we have never actually taken advantage of that.

"That has been our biggest downfall because when you are on top in games in this league, if you don't take that advantage then it will always come back to hurt you. That has been the case throughout the season when the opposition have had their spell in a game they have managed to get the goal or advantage and then it's been a chase. I am not saying that has been every game, some teams have been better than us but when you are chasing something it is always hard."

League positions don't lie, Dunfermline sit seventh but if it was determined on the basis of attendances rather than points, then the Fifers would be well ahead at the top. With an average attendance over a 1000 more than closest challengers Morton, the Pars top that league and bizarrely league leaders are bottom of the attendances league. Josh firmly believes that Dunfermline should be in a higher league but points out that they have no divine right:-

"You have got to aspire to get to the top. Since I joined the club I have said that it does not have a right to be, but it is a club that I believe should be there. It has a great fan base, great stadium - everything is ready to go but we need to do that on the park.

"It is alright saying that but until we actually do it then you will stay where you are. You can talk as much as you want but you have to use that determination and ambition to get as high as we possibly can. First of all we need to realise where we are and go from there."

It has certainly been a difficult season and the team now knows that it will be in League One next season. Saturday's match against Forfar can be the start of a new beginning because as Josh maintains, he and the team go into every game with the same attitude and same outlook.

"We will definitely be going out to win. it will be a pressure game for Forfar but hopefully we can do better than in the other three games against them this season when we have not performed at our best. We still have one more game to get the right result."
