Manager on Thursday
Thursday, 23rd Apr 2015Incentive to win the club's final home match of the season
John Potter is keen to win the club's final home match of the season and register a first win of this season over Dick Campbell's Forfar Athletic. Speaking exclusively to this website, the Dunfermline Manager said:-
"The games against them have all been pretty close. Stephen Husband scored a wonder goal last time to win the game. We can't win the league or get in the play offs any more but it is still important. Players are playing for contracts in the future, playing to try and please the fans who have been a good support for them this season and they have been disappointed as we have.
"Players need to be self motivated to go out and give everything they have to try and win the game like they did against Stranraer. It will be a difficult game but it does give us an opportunity to maybe bring in one or two who have been doing well in the under 20s. We could change the team a bit and have a look at a few things.
"It is still very important to me. You can't let the season peter out, you still want to win games and we will try and do that on Saturday."
The opponents in the Pars final two matches, Forfar and Airdrieonians still have something to play for in terms of play off places and these will by implication mean that they will be no easy matches.
"Forfar have to win to stay in the title race. With Stranraer and Morton playing each other they will see it as an opportunity to try and go top. They will be coming to try and win it but I am not really worried about anyone else's game, we must do our own job and if we do that it will be a competitive game. It is a game that we can win and we will go out to try and do it."
The management team want to show in the final home game, just how well the team can play. Expectations have been great but the performances have disappointed. Games have not been finished off and there has been an inability to pick up the important three points. Potts continued:-
"The way we have played has not been good enough. At times it has been good but we have failed to score goals and get on top in these games. That has come back to haunt us, confidence has gone and we have not been strong enough to recover and get back into games.
"When we did play well at the start of the season and even at times since I have been in charge, we have not managed to win games because we are not scoring goals. As soon as something goes against us the players lose their confidence.
"We need to demand more as a group. It will not be about Forfar on Saturday, I am not worried about them - good luck to them in their attempt to win the league. They have had a good season, I have no problem with that but I have got to think about Dunfermline, think about us and what we need to do to win.
"It is an opportunity to give one or two a chance either from the bench or maybe starting. Guys who have not played too much we need to have a look at because there are decisions to be made on people's contracts and future in the next ten days. There will be one or two who will be given an opportunity."
Ross Millen is suspended for the next two SPFL League One games, Lewis Spence came off in the Under 20s match this week at Falkirk and has a niggly injury with his knee. Ryan Wallace and JIm Paterson are out injured but the Manager is hopeful that the rest of his squad will be fit.
