Dunfermline Athletic

Manager on Friday

Friday, 17th Apr 2015

17/04/15: John Potter feels that his players have worked hard all week to prepare for the "must win" game at Brechin on Saturday.

Speaking exclusively to this website he said:-

"We are ready for the game and we are looking forward to it. I'd rather we know what we need to do and that is to win the game. If we do win, we give ourselves a chance. This week against Brechin we can affect what happens whereas last week we got a good result but could not affect how Brechin sit.

"They are a good team and have done well this season. They had a great run and they are picking up points. Three points would take us three points closer to them and make it an interesting couple of games to complete the league campaign.

"It was more like us last week but a win is only going to happen if we put in the same workman like performance. We need a bit more quality and to be creative and clinical in the final third. I still think that we can be better going forward but if we defend like we did and as a unit then we will be secure."

The Pars gaffer does not promise a beautiful game and he acknowledges that Brechin will make it tough.

"They are good going forward. They have a couple of creative players wider, they are very competitive in the middle of the park and they are strong at the back. Barr and Jackson, Robert Thomson - they are good players and lively but we have good players as well.

"We must match them and watch them closely, defend as a unit and force their creative players back down the pitch. If we do our job as a team, then it is a game that we can win."

Lewis Spence will remain sidelined with a knee knock but Josh Falkingham has recovered from his illness and has trained all week.

Brechin City manager Ray McKinnon is reported to be ready to welcome back Alan Trouten for tomorrow's match. Gerry McLauchlan who was injured in the match against Morton at Cappielow a fortnight ago is ruled out again. Paul McLean who moved into City's central defence for last week's victory over Stirling Albion looks set to continue in that role with Ewan McNeil continuing at right-back.
