Whitt's focus is on Balmoor
Friday, 3rd Apr 2015Alex Whittle has experience of playing the full 90 minutes in both the last two drawn matches against Peterhead.
He says that success over the Blue Toon team will be dependant upon having belief and confidence in themselves to get the win.
"We know Saturday is going to be a battle but we have to roll our sleeves up and battle back at them. It will be a physical game but we have to play our game as well, we should not get involved with them but play our own football.
"They have big players but we have physical players as well. We just have to compete and sometimes, if you have to play the long ball, play the long ball into the channels.
"Last week I thought we started quite well without creating much. The goal just before half time and straight after half time seemed to knock us back a bit. Once it went to 2-0 we lost confidence and did not get on the ball as much. We need that there are only five games left now and they are all must win games.
"So far this season our performances have not been good enough but we still have a chance to put that right. We maybe are a bit lucky that we are still in there with a chance. Time is running out but if we get a win on Saturday then we can hopefully kick on with a bit of momentum."
Fourth placed Brechin City are away to Morton on Saturday while fifth placed Airdrieonians will face an uncomfortable fixture at Forthbank where Stirling will be trying to avoid their relegation being settled. Whitts' manager is adamant that his team needs to win games before they can take a look at results from teams around about them, the 22 year old defender warns to take it just one game at a time. "We must focus on the game and Saturday and see what happens."
Alex scored his only goal of the season back on 2nd August and he would dearly love to find the net against. A knee problem then kept him out of the team for the best part of two months and then in February when the games came thick and fast he was sidelined after collecting a foot injury at Forfar.
"I missed four big games but I felt before that I was playing alright. I think I have had good games but as a team I do not think we have been good enough."
Of late Alex has been playing with David Hopkirk operating on the left flank in front of him. Alex offered his thoughts on their partnership:-
"He is a good player on both his left foot and right foot. He is always looking for the ball and that allows me to go inside or overlap. I just give him the ball and back him up, I like playing with him."
