Kyle shooting goals not feet

Friday, 20th Mar 2015

"We are constantly shooting ourselves in the foot before the game has really started.

Everyone at East End Park is hoping that Kyle McAusland's habit of winning against Stenhousemuir will continue this Saturday. He scored in Brechin City's 2-1 Scottish Cup win at Ochilview Park in November, then on 20th December was in the Glebe Park side's 2-0 league win at Ochilview Park. His winning streak continued on 14th February when his 74th minute wonder strike to equalise set up his Dunfermline team's 3-2 win at East End Park. Kyle responded in his exclusive interview with this website:-

"I didn't realise that but if that is an omen then hopefully I can continue it. Since I came here we have not had the run of games that many people expected. Ourselves, the players, the staff, the fans and even the teams about the rest of this league didn't see this happening.

"We only have ourselves to blame. It is nothing to do with other teams, tactics or formations. It comes back to the players and we have just not been good enough."

The suspension of Gregor Buchanan meant that Kyle reverted to the role he had played in so often while on loan from Rangers to Ayr United. He claimed that was not a hassle, nothing new him and just happy to perform in the role for the benefit of the team. He continued:-

"We need to win every single game from now to the end of the season. It will need a good finish and everything else will take care of itself. Other teams will drop points as everybody cuts each other up.

"There are seven games left to the season but if we can win them then we might make the play offs which at the very very least the team should be doing. We need to have a good end to the season to make up for the disappointment of being in this position in the first place."

The 22 year old agrees that the Pars squad impress in training but appear to lose that on match days.

"Every second day in training the boys are getting told to calm it down. That willingness to win should automatically take itself into a game. I believe like a lot of players and coaches that you train the way you play.

"If you train at 100mph you take that into the game; the same way if you are not at it in training, you are not at it in a game on the Saturday. That might be down to individuals not feeling right or whatever but if you can do it in training, you should do it in a game.

"It is not for the want of any of the players that this is the position that we are in. Looking back over the last few games, the goals that we have conceded are pretty terrible to be honest. The players know that themselves without being told.

"We are constantly shooting ourselves in the foot before the game has really started. That doesn't help much but if you take care of that the rest will take care of itself."
