SPFL League One: Pars meet Brechin City for the second time in eight days in a match postponed from 27th December

The league match between Dunfermline and Brechin City may be just the seventh between the clubs in the last twenty years but now its the second in just eight days. All six of course of the most recent have been in the last two seasons.  It was January 2014 when the Pars last travelled to Glebe Park and that 3-2 defeat was just Brechin's sixth win in league matches between them.

The last victory there on league business remains on 4th January 1994. In all league matches the Fifers have won 29, Brechin City 7 and 7 matches have been drawn. The best Pars result in Brechin was a 6-1 win in 1979 courtesy of a Mike Leonard hat trick and goals from Jimmy Mullin, Kevin Hegarty, and Walter Borthwick.

Last Tuesday night's 1-0 home defeat to Ray McKinnon's side was a major disappointment. Alan Trouten did the damage with a headed goal in 73 minutes and in the first meeting of this season at East End Park, the Angus side held the then League One odds on favourites to a goalless draw. The defeat at Brechin last time came as a result of a great fight back by McKinnon's team. On loan Lawrence Shankland put the Pars one up on the half hour, then Wallace doubled the lead nine minutes into the second half. Brechin hit back just three minutes later through Derek Carcary. Andy Jackson then rocked the visitors with an equaliser just four minutes later and Darren Petrie got the winner just a minute from full time.

Brechin City are now 15 league games undefeated; their last defeat being on 18th October and those successes have seen them climb the league until they are only four points behind the leaders Stranraer with a game in hand. Dunfermline now in sixth position sorely need to win if they are to keep their play off hopes alive. The Pars however have only won two of their last twelve matches.

John Potter termed Saturday his worst day as a manager and Tuesday night is the next opportunity to put things right. The last away win was at Ayr. Let's hope the next is at Brechin.
