Dunfermline Athletic

Jimmy Williamson (1928 - 2015)

Monday, 23rd Feb 2015

It is with much sadness that the Club has learned of the death of the oldest known Dunfermline Athletic player

Jimmy Williamson passed away last Friday just a month before he was due to be the Club's guest of honour at the home game versus Greenock Morton.

Dunkeld and Birnam Golf Club where Jimmy was a regular - playing three times per week - installed a new defibrillator only the previous week but despite the best efforts of those involved, Jimmy Williamson passed away on the course.

Until very recently when he was laid off for a cataract operation Jimmy worked at James Pirie & Son butchers in Newtyle. It was due to his recovery period from the cataract operation that Jimmy's return to East End Park was delayed.

His boss, Allan Pirie said that Jimmy would have loved to have been back there and he was looking forward to it. "He could go back to playing against the Famous Five and he had a fantastic memory. He was a very fit man and was very proud of his waistline claiming he was as trim as when he played."

Jimmy was with Dunfermline for four seasons from 1952 to 1956 but was constantly hampered by an unwillingness to move closrer to East End Park and perhaps become full time.

After leaving football Jimmy had his own butchers business - McDonald & Williamson in Stanley and after retiring had worked on for over ten years in Newtyle.

Our thoughts go to Jimmy's sons Mark and Clive the rest of the Wiliamson family.
