Winner causes Barra to lose it

Andy Barrowman's two goals in the important 3-2 win over Stenhousemuir on Saturday were his first since rejoining Dunfermline on 13th January.

Of course the two on Saturday added to his previous Pars tally of 20 goals but few have ever made him as elated as he was on Saturday afternoon. After the match a very happy Barra described his emotions:-

"It felt good, I have scored a few winners in my time but that one felt extra special. It was a relief to score the winner and I don't know why I took my top off! I never do that but I just lost it, I ran out of pitch and was nearly away up that corner. It was a great feeling, the boys deserved it and it is great to be in that changing room.

"Obviously I know what it means to the fans and the players as well. We had enough pressure and enough chances; obviously a penalty, and I think we deserved it."

Dunfermline came back from behind to win for only the second time this season but Andy was not surprised that the two goal lead could be clawed back.

"To be honest we started the game well but then after the first goal we just dropped. We can't do that - we are going to get set backs in games and we need to be stronger and stand up to that.

"At the end of the day we got the result and at this stage of the season that is all that matters. Maybe in the past and before I came they maybe played well and not got a win so we will take it and move on."

Andy described his first goal which came in added time at the end of the first half:-

"I just gambled as Moffat got a shot away, the boy blocked it on the line and I have just hit it in with my stomach. I knew that I needed any sort of touch on it to help it over the line. It is nice to get these tap ins of goals, it has been a while since I got one of those but you always make these runs and gamble on them. You do not always succeed so I will take them when they come."

The penalty miss was only exacerbated when Andy headed the follow up on to the crossbar:-

"I don't know how long was left to go but they gave us plenty of time to get the winner. Moffat stepped up and he missed it. It doesn't matter because at the end of the day we have won the game. He will be disappointed" and Andy joked "that's me on penalties now!"

The 30 year old striker who played the first half of the season at promotion chasing rivals, Morton was pleased to be on the scoresheet:-

"You have always got to hope that defenders make mistakes. Look for ricochets and if you do that every time, sometimes you do not get them but on Saturday the combined yardage of my goals must have been ten. I will take it and I am delighted that it was a winner."

The goal that saw the Pars come back from two goals behind for the first time since against Stenhousemuir in August 2013 came from an Alex Whittle cross that was headed down to Barrowman by Andy Geggan. As one would expect the striker praised the supply he received:-

"That is how the manager wants to play. Second half we switched the play a lot better. In the first half it was a bit too obvious our play but second half we switched it from side to side and got some good balls into the box. As a striker that is what you thrive on, hopefully there will be many more to come."

The mood after the late winner was clearly buoyant and a great confidence builder going into an important period of the season. Andy continued:-

"It was a massive result and that is what that group of players needs. They are good players and it is a good squad but we have been lacking a bit of confidence. That will do the team wonders. If we had not got that win then it would have been a set back after after getting the result in the last game.

"It is a great place to be - from Monday to Friday the atmosphere and the work rate, everything that is getting put into this football club whether it's the manager, Neil, we deserve results and at the end of the day it is results that matter. That will help the cause and give everybody confidence and a spring in their step when they come in on Monday morning."
