Fans crucial part
Saturday, 17th Jan 2015Andy Barrowman felt that it was nice to run out at East End Park again as a Pars player but knew that it would have felt better if the team had won.
"It was good to be back on that pitch and I feel that I can really get into it now that's the first game out of the way.
"I hadn't trained all week, I didn't even train yesterday because I was struggling with a calf injury. I said to the manager in the warm up that I was struggling so I was in pain for the full ninety minutes. If I was a bit slow to get started that is why."
The 30 year old striker played in every Morton side from September until 3rd January and the calf injury is not something that has troubled Andy before. He described it like cramp feeling solid for most of the game.
Having already met in two cup ties and three league games this was Andy's sixth game against Airdrieonians this season but even as a Dunfermline player rather than a Morton one, the Diamonds were remained typical opponents:-
"We gave them a couple of goals which helps when they have that sort of game plan they have something to hold on to. If we are on top they would have to come out but obviously it never turned out like that today.
"We got the point and I think we gained a wee bit of ground on a couple of teams maybe. It is in our hands now, we are nine off Stranraer with a game in hand and to play them twice. We know that a draw is not what we are looking for, we need wins but if we keep showing that sort of effort and desire that we showed in the last twenty minutes there, we will win more games than we lose."
That urgency shown towards the end of the game meant that for the second week running the Pars came back from 2-1 down to get a draw. Andy credited that to the difference the two second half subs made:-
"Michael Moffat and Ryan Wallace helped, they did well and changed the game a bit. We started passing the ball better, we started playing through the midfield and in the first half we never really did that.
"That is what we need to do. We are a good passing side, we have players who can take the ball and take people on. We started to get the ball switched from side to side and got a bit of joy from that. That is what we need to do from the start and not just twenty minutes at the end."
Andy started alongside Allan Smith who he had trained alongside during his previous time at Dunfermline. When Andy was forced to leave due to the club going into administration ironically it was Allan Smith who was given his chance in the first team. Ryan Wallace is better known to him however:-
"Myself and Ryan Wallace had a good partnership before. We seemed to link up well even in training and we had an understanding. There is Michael Moffat as well, they are all good players and it is good for the team of there is competition and all vying for that shirt. If you have it you have to play well to keep it."
The East End Park crowd was another reason Barrowman was pleased to be back at Dunfermline, he added:-
"The fans can play a big part for us this season, we are going to need them. Sometimes you can hear the moans and groans coming from the stands but especially in that second half, I have said it before, they kind of sucked that ball into the net.
"It got mentioned in the dressing room at half time. That is what happened so we need the fans on our side. Okay the results are not going the way we want but you can see that the boys are giving absolutely everything. If they can see that they will get behind us because we are going to need them."
