Wallace rues dropped points
Monday, 5th Jan 2015Ryan's return fails to wrap it up for Pars
Pars striker, Ryan Wallace was unhappy with the result on Saturday but was pleased to start his first competitive match since 22nd March. His disappointment was shared by all the players and he said that you would have heard a pin drop on the dressing room on Saturday after the draw with Peterhead:-
"The game should have been out of sight by the end of the first half. It didn't happen and if you don't score goals, you don't win matches. That's just the way it goes. As the manager says if the boys are not doing it, then he is maybe going to have look elsewhere. It is as simple as that.
"We missed three or four very good chances in the first half. These weren't even half chances, they were proper chances clean through one on one. The mood at half time was brilliant and the boys were ready to go again then it was a sucker punch when they got a penalty and scored a goal. We had chances after that to win the game and we didn't wrap it up.
"It was two points dropped rather than one gained. The boys are absolutely gutted to lose two points especially given the results elsewhere. We just need to pick ourselves up and try and win next week. We need a win whether it's 1-0 or 5-0, we just need to get back to that winning way."
The sending off of Andy Geggan with 14 minutes remaining made the win even more difficult to achieve on Saturday, Ryan said that Andy knows himself that he was reckless.
"He knows that he is an experienced player and he should not be doing that."
Ryan admitted that he had felt a little off the pace of the game and added:-
"I probably need to do a bit more during the week to get involved, sharp and fit again. I feel fit enough to play in the game but the game is really really quick. It was pretty tough. I felt the second half that I was starting to get into it a bit more. The first half kind of past me by a bit but I'm sure it will all come on the long run with playing games."
2014 was a tough year for Ryan with a double hernia and then a stress fracture in his back.
"That totally ruined my season and I never really did much of pre season because of that. I just did a kind of pre season there and this is me just getting back to the start of a season and being a bit rusty. I am looking forward to playing some more minutes and hopefully help climbing the league."
It is a goalscorer that Dunfermline have been badly missing and Ryan hopes that his return can be the answer to the ongoing problem. The 24 year old has not played a full 90 minutes since a pre season match at Berwick and he pledged:-
"It is my job to score goals. I need to work hard at impressing the manager in training, hopefully get back in the team, stay in the team."
