Manager on Hogmanay
Wednesday, 31st Dec 201431/12/14: John Potter revealed to the website his thinking behind the release of striker Gozie Ugwu
"Gozie's contract was up, along with Sorel's. He had done okay in some of the games he played. Although he scored a few goals, he was a little inconsistent and I wanted to get some money together to try and freshen things up and get my own players in.
"He was maybe a wee bit unlucky that way; even from a playing side I though he did okay at times. He has not been fully fit for the last few weeks, he was up and down, for me a bit inconsistent so it is something that frees a bit of money and allows me to make other changes. That's the way it's is; with his wage and his apartment he was probably quite expensive for a club like Dunfermline. It will allow me to get two or three in.
"I have a couple of guys who I have spoken to about maybe coming in, we need to wait and see what the next few weeks bring."
Since it has been reported elsewhere the Pars gaffer was able to confirm that he had spoken to full back Jim Paterson whose contract is about to run out at League One rivals, Forfar Athletic.
"I knew his contract was up and I have spoken to him. He is a good experienced player, I know the kind of character he is. He would add something to us. I asked him if he would be interested and made him an offer to see if he wants to come and play and possibly to help with some of the under 20s duties.
"I have no doubt he will be offered more money elsewhere from other clubs but he seems really keen to come. He has another week left at Forfar and so we will find out later this week what is the situation."
The Pars were due to play a friendly on Monday night at Lesser Hampden but that was frozen off, then another friendly arranged for Tuesday was cancelled at short notice, meaning another day of training as usual ahead of this weekend’s league game against Peterhead.
