Smith looking for change of luck

Friday, 26th Dec 2014

"I am feeling good and confidence is key.

Allan Smith is the Pars player who potentially knows the most about Saturday's opponents but that is limited to the experience of just 40 minutes match time playing for them while there on loan in 2012. The Pars striker told this website:-

"I was only there for three games before the manager, Jim Weir left. I just came back when that happened. Brechin was a lot different from Dunfermline, we trained on the astro at Grangemouth on Thursday nights.

"Brechin sat back the last time we played them but who knows what they will do this Saturday? It is up to us really, if we go about it the right way we should win even though they are unbeaten in ten games. Robert Thomson who was here still plays for them and Ryan Ferguson but all the boys are looking forward to the game."

Since Allan's time at Brechin was short and even although he played in the same side as current players Andy Jackson, Alan Trouten, Gary Fusco and Paul MacLean, the Pars striker claims to know little else about his possible opponents on Saturday.

"I didn't get to know them much. I made my debut at Glebe Park against Queen of the South but had played a friendly the day before for Dunfermline against Falkirk. I was told after the game that Brechin wanted me. I went there and came on at 3-0 down. It was an experience of sorts, I think I went there at the wrong time!"

Allan's season was restricted through tonsillitis to just three appearances up until five weeks ago. Having had his tonsils removed the 20 year old has now played in every one of the Pars last six matches. He claims that it is good to be back:-

"I am enjoying it and hopefully I will get a run of games, start picking up points and climbing up the table." Allan impressed in the Under 20s scoring a hat trick against Dundee on 11th November and for those reading just results and scorers he looked the answer as he came in to hit two in the League One win over Ayr United on 6th of this month. He continued:-

"I am feeling good and confidence is key. The 20s are a lot different from first team, I can only do my best and hopefully we can start winning. It is not about me, as long as we get the three points I will be happy."

New gaffer John Potter has been in charge of Allan Smith's development through from the youth system at Dunfermline and knows the Borderer well:-

"He knows what I am like and how to talk to the players. He is trying to improve the quality in the final third; even at second balls we have not been getting the break. Stranraer got one break and scored even though we battered them for most of the game. Hopefully our luck will change and we will start winning. It has to turn at some point so why not tomorrow. The boys are looking forward to it."
