Buckie's Excelsior Return
Friday, 12th Dec 2014"We have to take it into our own hands to make sure that we win week in week out.
Gregor Buchanan will return to the Excelsior Stadium to play against his former club for the first time there since leaving to join Dunfermline in the summer. Speaking exclusively to this website he said:-
"I am looking forward to it. I met a lot of nice people and I really enjoyed my time there, it should be good."
After 64 appearances for Airdrieonians he knows the astroturf park there well and claims that on a damp day it can have a bit of zip in it:-
"On a nice sunny day it is a bit sticky. It is a big pitch and I think it will suit us nicely. We have been going well in the league and putting in some good results; that is pleasing in that sense but Tuesday was a disappointment, nobody can deny that. We are all bitterly disappointed to be out of the cup but it has happened. There should have been a glamour fixture at the end of it but we never got it. We cannot really dwell on it, the only focus now is to become the champions of League One.
"Everybody is massively disappointed but the only way to get over that is to get back to winning ways. In football you either lose or you win. It was such a disappointing defeat because we really believed that we had a good chance to go by Stranraer and meet Dundee United. We didn't but we have to get three points on Saturday and everybody is well aware of that."
The 24 year old central defender knows Airdrie well and has watched closely as they have amassed 14 points from 15 games.
"They have picked up points here and there. They have had some good results and a few disappointing ones. The Airdrie fans will say that is the Airdrie way. We are just going to focus on ourselves, we have to take it into our own hands to make sure that we win week in week out. If we don't win the game we need to make sure that every other week we do win."
More goals from Gregor Buchanan would help that cause of course and he agreed:-
"I want to add a few more goals to my game. I have been a wee bit unlucky in the last couple of games after scoring at Stranraer. The goalkeeper has made some good saves, I hit the bar on Tuesday. I'm getting closer but there are more goals to come and more celebrations!
