Preview Stranraer
Tuesday, 9th Dec 2014Tuesday 9th December, East End Park, kick off 7.45pm.
Stranraer's only East End Park win ever was in the League Cup in season 1979-80 when they won 4-2 after extra time.
The club and players are hoping for a good turnout on Tuesday night for the William Hill Scottish Cup Fourth Round replay against Stranraer. The incentive is huge - a place in the last sixteen and a home tie against one of the Premier League's teams of the season, Jackie McNamara's Dundee United.
After a gap of 17 years without one game between these two teams this will be the ninth meeting in the last fifteen months. In the eight meetings Stranraer have won two, the Pars five and the last match in this cup competition was drawn 2-2.
Out of 42 league and cup fixtures between the two, the Galloway opposition have won just four times and only one of those wins was at East End Park. That was in season 1979-80 when Stranraer won 4-2 in the League Cup. Goals by McAloon (65 pen) and Robertson (77) had put the Pars two up but Stranraer got it level to force extra time in which they scored another two.

In the Scottish Cup Dunfermline have only been drawn against Stranraer three times, always away. In January 1954 a 4-1 victory was secured with two goals each from McSevenie and Candlish.
In February 1961 en route to lifting the Scottish Cup for the first time ever the Fifers won 3-1 courtesy of goals from Harry Melrose, Charlie Dickson and Tommy MacDonald.
The last meeting was in January 1979 when after being held to a 1-1 draw at Stair Park before a Mullin goal was the winner at home. Hopefully this trend can continue following the drawn match at Stair Park last month.
Dunfermline's best result against Stranraer was in Division Two in April 1958 when a Charlie Dickson hat trick helped the Pars to a 9-1 scoreline. The drawn match in November 1983 was just five games into Jim Leishman's managerial career.

The season did not start too clever for Stranraer, they took just four points from their first four league matches and didn't pick up their first three points until September. Since the Petrofac Cup win over Falkirk however they have gone 14 matches unbeaten in all competitions. They were denied a Petrofac Final appearance after going out 5-4 on penalties to Livingston.
