Cup goal for Josh

Friday, 28th Nov 2014

Josh Falkingham is keen to get success at Stranraer and progress through to the next round of the Scottish Cup.

"Hopefully we can take last week's form and confidence into the game. We would like to build momentum going into the Christmas period.

"It is going to be a tough game, we know what to expect because we have played them enough times now to know what to expect down there. It won't be easy at all and we will need to be at our best to get a good result and hopefully into the next round."

The 24 year old who captained the team last Saturday in Andy Geggan's absence will make his 98th appearance for the Pars if he plays at Stranraer. He hopes that his cup appearances can extend well beyond Saturday however especially given the way the cup draw went:-

"The draw was quite a surprise how it paired Premier v Premier, Championship v Championship, League One v League One and even the League Two teams managed to draw each other. There are going to be some top teams knocked out at this stage so if we can get the result we are after it gives us a great chance of having a good run.

"I have had a couple of great draws in cups but I have never actually had a good run. For me I'd like a good run in the cup and experience that feeling of going further in the competition."

Saturday's result was followed by a good under 20s win over Partick Thistle and Josh felt that made the manager's team selection for the cup tie that bit more difficult:-

"All you can do is produce on a Saturday and that is what we want to do. Hopefully we now have a team with momentum and confidence. We are scoring goals which is another thing that has been lacking. If we can produce that in the cup and then continue that into the league because it is coming up to the important part of the season.

"We need to push now, forget everything that has gone on, we are still in a great position in the league and we are certainly nowhere near out of it. I hope that last Saturday gave everybody a little boost.

"The 20s have been scoring goals as well. That breeds confidence in the boys who are coming in, in the first team and in training. Last season the 20s did brilliantly and obviously we had a good season last year. Hopefully now that the 20s are picking up, we will pick up as well, it could have a knock on effect.

"We have a chance of winning this game and continuing in the cup. Everybody likes the glamour ties, the big ones and I am sure the club do but first and foremost from a players point of view, you want a good run. If that means tough games like Stranraer away and you end up getting through I am not too fussed."
