Tesco Trolley Dash for Foodbank
Wednesday, 26th Nov 2014Pars Players play their part in pushing foodbank appeal
- - Late News: Pars donated 334.3kg of food to the foodbank on Monday
Dunfermline Athletic FC again joined forces on Tuesday morning with Tesco Fire Station and the Trussel Trust in support of the town's foodbank. Pars players Josh Falkingham and Alex Whittle were up bright and early to visit the store, before training, and take part in a trolley dash around the new Tesco Fire Station store, in aid of the foodbank.
Alongside them in the friendly race was a team from Tesco, who had the benefit of playing on home soil, and knew their way around the store.
However, Alex pushed the Pars trolley, showing remarkable pace and skill weaving his way round the aisles as though it was the left wing of East End Park. Josh, acting like a captain, held the shopping list and kept the Pars Team on time and ensured as much as possible was put in the trolley!
The Pars Team certainly had more in their trolley at the end of the 5 minute dash, but the real winners were the Trussel Trust, who operate the Dunfermline foodbank.
Ross McArthur, Director stated
“Dunfermline Athletic Football Club is proud to play its part in supporting our wider community, especially those worse off than ourselves and particularly at this time of year when we all too easily take things for granted. It is humbling to see what the Trussel Trust is achieving.
"I would like to thank Store Manager, Richard Moir once again for his assistance with this initiative, amongst other things, and the rest of the staff and customers at Tesco Fire Station on the day who supported us on the day.
"As ever, Josh and Alex were fantastic and entered into the fun of it, and I have to highlight that the players themselves each made donations towards the trolley dash, which was a lovely gesture.
"That said, the players did such a good job of collecting groceries that they went way over budget…..and there is no prize for guessing who was left to bail them out! They certainly had the last laugh there!”
