Byrning Desire
Monday, 24th Nov 2014Shaun Byrne was one of just four survivors from the Pars side that lost at Stenhousemuir, to line up against Stirling Albion on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to this website, Shaun revealed that it was a great relief to get a win:-
"Everybody is buzzing and it is a lot better when we are winning. That is the way you want to be every Saturday, the only disappointing thing is Ryan Williamson's injury. Hopefully he makes a speedy recovery and it is nothing too serious.
"We are delighted to win because we have been playing well but have just not been getting the final touch. On Saturday it seemed to click and big Gozie scored a few cracking goals."
The entire team had been concerned when they heard the manager's intentions to ring the changes in his team:-
"In the changing room nobody knew what was going to happen. There was no indication during the week and we just had to wait until the gaffer named his team. The boys who came in did well. It is not that the boys who went out were playing poor, it was just not happening.
"I was delighted to stay in the team and would like to make a good run of games that would cement my place in the team."
The new look side got off to a great start with Ugwu's fifth minute goal. Shaun said:-
"Getting the first goal was massive and we have not been getting the second one to kill the game off. We got two goals quite early though, that settled us in and we played some great stuff."
Shaun seemed to take confidence in his manager's decision to retain him in the team. He had a stop start beginning to the season having been selected to start in just three of the first eleven games but it clearly felt that he was now part of the team although his role appeared to have changed a little:-
"I wasn't playing as a so called sitter, I was just playing a wee bit further back than I normally do. I enjoyed it, it was good and if you can play two or three positions it helps you case to be in the team."
The 21 year old midfielder has now started in seven of the last eight matches and some would think that the team that defeated Stirling Albion might get a vote of confidence and be put out for the Scottish Cup tie at Stair Park on Saturday. He ruled out an automatic start:-
"I don't think that you are guaranteed to play any week; every game is different and it is going to be a really tough game. Down at Stranraer it will be a physical game so we will go with whoever the gaffer picks and whoever is on the bench, we will all be sticking together. We will only be going for the win."
