Pars Family supports Foodbank

Monday, 17th Nov 2014

Dunfermline Athletic FC has launched an appeal to all supporters to donate to the town's foodbank

Calling all Pars fans:
Help your community this winter with a foodbank donation

Volunteers from across the “Pars Family” are already setting up collection points, arranging transport, contacting local businesses for help, and publicising the initiative. Fans will be able to take food and other items to the stadium or other collection points, and make cash donations at the next two home games.

DAFC Chairman, Bob Garmory said “once again we are approaching that time of year when we all expect to enjoy a wonderful festive period with friends and family where overeating and over indulgence is the norm.

"However, we in the Pars Family should spare a thought for those in our community who will not be able to enjoy a merry Xmas because of their circumstances. Therefore, our club is proud to play its part in supporting our wider community, and we see this as an opportunity for everyone associated with the Pars to help those worse off than ourselves.

Everybody at the club (including the players, staff and board) are absolutely delighted to support this initiative, alongside the PST, DASC, the Kincardine Supporters Club, the Centenary Club Lifeline, 1885 Business Club and the Former Players Association”.

Festive looking Pars players Faissal El Bakhtaoui, Sorel Chemin, Alex Whittle, Gregor Buchanan, Chigozie Ugwu, Josh Falkingham, Michael Moffat, are joined by First Team Coach John Potter, Marvyn Stewart (DASC) and Margaret Davidson (PST) at Pitreavie on Friday making their personal donations to the appeal fund.

John Drylie of the Trussell Trust, who operate the foodbank, added, "13 million people live below the poverty line in the UK. Our foodbank which is a part of the Trussell Trust has provided food to 2856 people in the past 12 months and that number could double over the next year. A foodbank voucher allows clients the provision of 3 days emergency food. The Pars appeal is a wonderful example of how the community can help our efforts, so on behalf of those who use the foodbank I'd like to say a huge thank you to everyone at the club."
