Jim Jefferies Post Stenhousemuir

Saturday, 15th Nov 2014

Somebody else is going to be saying 'when are we going to get our chance?' That will be next week."

Jim Jefferies warned his players before the game at Stenhousemuir that he was willing to give the same starting eleven a chance for just one more time:-

"We have been playing well and I went with the same side that played here a couple of weeks ago on the astro. Last week they dominated the game and before the game I said that we have to turn that into results.

"Good performances are all very well but results are what matter at the moment. After I got a response from certain players in the Under 20s game this week (5-0 win at Dundee), they had better make sure that they get a result today.

"They were warned. I know you could put down that their goalie has had three or four great saves. One from Geggan when he was right through in the first half. He had a good save from Josh and from the follow up. On three or four occasions we tried to pass it into the net instead of picking our spot.

"There was a great move and cut back and Alex Whittle who I thought was probably our best player today by far, side footed it into the goalie's hands. Andy Geggan made one available late on in the game for Stuart Urquhart but he side footed into the goalkeeper's hands.

"The Daddy of them all was in the last minute when Moffat, he cannot buy a goal just now, but the ball falls to him three or four yards out. You think here is your chance, get off the mark and go on a run. He put it wide.

"If you analyse the game - did they work hard enough? The answer is yes. Did they try to play? The answer is yes. We are guilty when we do create a chance, of not finishing it off.

"We have to look at something else in terms of how we go about it and also some changes; maybe some fresh faces in there to give these boys an opportunity to resolve the problem because we are not scoring goals. If you don't score goals - they get one chance and it was an individual mistake, Josh is just back obviously and he tried to control it. He miscontrolled it but the boy still had plenty to do.

"He pushed it wide, the boy mishit a shot that came off Buchanan but their midfield players backed it up to put it in the net. Where were our midfield players? It is not good enough if you have games like that where you are not taking your chances. We weren't last week because we lost a goal two minutes from the end.

"Today you could sense that if Stenhousemuir get a goal first then they would have something to hold on to. They would defend with their lives and even though we pushed and still created chances, they have to start taking them. It is just not good enough.

"I watched them on Thursday in training and they were lashing them away, passing them away, scoring goals for fun. It is not on the training pitch, that's all very well but you have to do it in games and we are not doing that. We are not scoring enough goals for the amount of dominance we have in games. That is the bottom line.

"We will have to change it, give somebody else a chance and see if they can take the chances that are coming along our way. I was fair to the players, I said to them that you cannot keep playing well, working hard and not winning games. Somebody else is going to be saying 'when are we going to get our chance?' That will be next week."
