Dunfermline Athletic Remembers: ‘Lest We Forget’ Shirt Auction
Wednesday, 5th Nov 2014Fraser Bedwell, Head of Communications at Poppyscotland said “What Dunfermline Athletic and their supporters have done is very much appreciated"
Following the very popular on-line auction of the ‘Lest We Forget’ Poppy Shirts, individually signed by a selection of past Pars Legends as well as the First Team on 25 October 2014, Dunfermline Athletic can announce that a cheque for £8,300 will be presented to Poppyscotland.
This follows on from a donation of £500 at the successful World War I Day in August, and the bucket collection at East End Park on 25 October, conducted by cadets of all three armed forces, which raised over £800.
Fraser Bedwell, Head of Communications at Poppyscotland said “What Dunfermline Athletic and their supporters have done is very much appreciated. Poppyscotland is at the forefront of providing practical help, from specialist advice and employment support, to home adaptations, mobility aids and tailored funding packages. We believe those who have served, those still serving, and their families, have made unforgettable sacrifices and deserve special recognition and support.”
In addition, Pars fans will very shortly have the opportunity to buy raffle tickets to win one of a pair of the unique shirts at the home game versus Stirling Albion on November 22. These were bought by the Pars Supporters’ Trust to ensure that all supporters, irrespective of wealth, had a chance to own one of these special shirts.

As with the auction winners, winners of the raffle will receive a letter from Bob Garmory, Club Chairman:
Dunfermline Athletic ‘Lest We Forget’ shirts
I wanted to write and thank you for buying a raffle ticket for one of the DAFC ‘Lest We Forget’ shirts. I am delighted that you are one of our winners.
We have already donated firkins of beer to both the Army Personnel Recovery Centre in Edinburgh and the Erskine Home for Veterans, along with a cash donation from our successful World War I day to Poppyscotland.
A look at the many War Memorials that stand in every West Fife community shows the scale of the losses borne by our community in World War 1. Sadly that was not ‘the war to end all wars’ and to this day members of our community continue to serve their country in places of conflict and suffer injury as a result. Poppyscotland does a tremendous job to help those people.
We must never forget that we were only able to save our club because we acted together and helped each other to achieve what many thought was impossible. Our intention this year is to help Poppyscotland raise as much money as possible to allow them to continue their invaluable work to assist those who need help.
On a Saturday, Dunfermline Athletic may win or lose. As supporters we can do little to influence the results on the field other than to help build a stronger, more vibrant community owned football club with decent values. That is what we aim to do and your actions in supporting this unique event is yet further evidence that this is what we are now doing.
I thank you for your help in this regard.
Come on Ye Pars
Bob Garmory
Chairman
