Striking a successful partnership
Sunday, 2nd Nov 2014Michael Moffat did not score any of the four goals in Sunday's Scottish Cup win over East Stirlingshire but he felt he played an important role in securing the result.
Michael has said before that he is not so worried about his own goal scoring tally just as long as somebody is hitting the net and the team is winning.
"I put the cross in for Faissal to score. I have not been getting too many chances lately but as long as somebody the ball in the net it doesn't really matter. As long as we are winning games that is the priority.
"Obviously as a striker you want to score as many as you can and score in every game. The main thing is getting the three points or in this case getting through to the next round of the cup."
At one point it looked like Michael's striking partnership might be with Gozie Ugwu but since Faissal has now staked a strong bid for a starting spot with five goals in the last five games.
"The more you play with somebody the better you play together. Today especially in the first half there were four or five good link up moves by the two strikers. We have been working a lot in midfielders getting into the box and getting the ball to the strikers quickly.
"The first goal came from shot sharp passing round about the box. Then the cross in for Faiss to score. I don't know what part of his body scored though. It went into the net, I think he claimed he thighed it in."
Michael had a role on the second goal too although not so directly:-
"I saw Shaun Byrne on the ball, I took a run that made the defender wait and he slipped it into the gap to Faiss. It was a good finish and another decent move. We were comfortable after that. At 1-0 it is a difficult score but the second goal kind of knocked the stuffing out of them a bit."
Safely through to the Fourth Round of the Scottish Cup, the focus now turns back to the league and what will no doubt be a challenge at Peterhead:-
"It is a tough place to go at the best of times so I am sure that they will be up for the game. Hopefully it will not get out of hand like the last time. I would like to think that it wouldn't get that way. We just need to keep our heads, our composure and get back to winning ways in the league.
"Three points are a must. I played there three years ago and won 2-1 so it was good. The boys were saying that it is three and a half hours from Dunfermline, it will be a long day but we knew that they would be in the league and you just need to get on with it.
"We can't use that as an excuse, we just need to get on with it and hopefully get a win."
