Killer touch required
Monday, 27th Oct 2014Pars keeper Ryan Scully admitted that losing to a goal in the third minute of added time was just the worst possible way to end a match.
"It was a really bad one to take. All the results went our way as well and we could have gone top. It was two soft goals that we gave away but we need to look at killing teams off when we are on top."
Dunfermline had started Saturday's game against Morton at lightning pace creating many chances in the opening twenty minutes. It took until seven minutes into the second half before the Pars could hit the Morton net. Ryan who will be 22 on Wednesday, described how he saw it:-
"When we took the lead we followed that up with a wee burst but the closer the game gets to the finish, we are probably going to sit back.
"It was really disappointing to lose those two goals and once they get that goal back they always fancy themselves to get the second one.
"It was the perfect time for them to score, it was basically the last kick of the ball. They would have felt lucky to get away with a draw, I don't think that there was any doubt that we were the better team for the majority of the game. That's probably the story of our season so far, dominating possession but not killing teams off."
The story of Ryan's season so far is eight shut outs and he was gutted to lose his record, not conceding a goal in the 453 minutes of football since Connor Pepper headed in at Cappielow in September.
"Teams are always going to have periods when they are going to have a chance against us. We weren't stupid enough to think that we would go through the whole season keeping clean sheets at home. It was disappointing but we were thinking more about getting the three points."
Eight shut outs this season is not far off the ten Ryan achieved last season, he continued:-
"Last year wasn't the greatest record but we have been stronger defensively so far. It was still a blow to lose the two goals but maybe the point we got last week against Forfar doesn't look so bad now.
"Forfar have not really taken advantage themselves. It is a long season, hard to get consistency because we are always there to be hit at. We are the favourites so teams raise their games against us but it is up to us to deal with that pressure."
