Driving for full points
Friday, 17th Oct 2014If it's 1-0 or 5-0 it doesn't really matter to me, as long as we get the three points.
Josh Falkingham is ready for the visit of Dick Campbell's Forfar Athletic on Saturday and the fact that it is a clash with such a bearing on league positions adds to the importance of the fixture:-
"It is first v second. Everything is good at the minute; the boys are in good spirit and ready for the big game. After every game that you play, that is the first thing that you do.
"You look at the results in your league and you are looking to see how everyone else round about us has done. It adds a bit knowing that if we can get the three points we will go top of the league. It is not going to be easy. We have played Forfar enough times now to know exactly what they are all about."
Josh is hoping that the playing surface will help Dunfermline since of late Forfar have taken full advantage of playing on their astroturf surface.
"It is maybe just an excuse that we use. Our away form up there is not good but our home form against them is better. We will try and use that home advantage; the big pitch at East End Park suits us and try and use the home crowd who have been brilliant."
The Pars players are rightly wary of any team that Dick Campbell puts out against Dunfermline. Josh explained:-
"He sets them up solid. Every man knows exactly what their job is. They are hard to break down and as I have been saying all season, the first goal is vital and against a team like Forfar it is even more vital because when we have gone up there I cannot ever remember scoring first. At home we have been scoring first which has been good. If we get the first goal, it makes teams - if they really want to win the game - come out and play against us a little bit more."
Despite managing to win games, finding the net has not been the easiest of tasks for Dunfermline, Josh has scored only once (against Peterhead) and he rattled off matches where he felt goals should have been more plentiful:-
"I do think that we have been creating a lot of chances - at Stirling and at Ayr. I feel that we have been starting really well, that is the good thing, you have to take that as a positive.
"If we weren't creating chances and we were only scoring a couple then I would be saying that it is a bit of a worry but if we can keep making these chances, sooner or later they will all start going in. If it's 1-0 or 5-0 it doesn't really matter to me, as long as we get the three points."
Please note: The Scottish Youth Cup tie versus Clyde will be played at East End Park on Monday 3rd November, kick off 7.00pm
