Martin misses two matches
Thursday, 2nd Oct 2014Lewis Martin joins up with the Scotland U19 squad on Friday
Jim Jefferies is delighted for Lewis Martin but with that comes disappointment as well. The centre defender's trip to Lithuania with the Scotland U19 squad means that he will be absent while his team mates takes on Stirling Albion on Saturday and Ayr United the following Friday. The manager told the website:-
“Lewis will miss two games, possibly three depending how the results go. We don’t have any say on the matter. I think they do have a point when you complain about them not playing for Scotland and then you pull them out a squad. They have the final say anyway, because with friendlies there was a wee bit come and go, but with it being the European Championships, if you get enough players selected then you can cancel your game, which doesn’t apply to us.
“At the same time we can’t stop the laddie either, because it is good for him. It also helps in relationships when you are pushing for our players to be considered for selection. It could be that he might have missed a game through injury anyway, so it is right to let Lewis go with the squad. At the end of the day, it is good for the boy and good for the club."
