Manager post Morton
Saturday, 20th Sep 201420/09/14: Jim Jefferies was angry in defeat that his team had just not performed. He termed it their worst performance of the season.
"When we have been beaten this year I have always defended them because they have played well. Morton looked to me like they wanted it more. They got in about us, stopped us playing and we never responded. We just seemed to accept the situation."
Penalty kick in 72nd minute allowed Ross Millen to pull the Pars back level
"Let's be honest about it, we deserved to be 1-0 down. To get back in the game like that just shows you how these games can change. After we equalised for a five minute spell we looked like the team that was going to go on and win.
"They were rattled by the penalty and that is when you are looking for your team to say 'well we have not played well today, we have been down 1-0 for ages, we've got it back to 1-1 with a little bit of a lifeline to get a result out of it'.
"You make sure having done that, that you have a mental toughness to make sure that you don't give anything away.
"First goal today was all about hesitating by young Drummond who has not dealt with a ball that has been knocked forward. They latched on to it and finished it great.
"The second one was the same. Andy Barrowman has gone up, I think he flicked it on, yet he is the first to respond. The defender has got to see that and make sure he gets there first. Put it out for a corner is all you need to do. We allowed the ball to be cut back in and then I have always said to defenders that when there is somebody in the box, if the ball doesn't come in, its a bonus. You have got to be prepared for it coming in and deal with it.
"The boy (Connor Pepper) has out jumped us in the six yard box even though he is not the tallest.
"That was the story all day - second best. Morton competed very well, they got in about us and in any head of steam that we got up, we were sloppy.
"Michael Moffat who has been terrific, got chances round about the box but he tried to pass it. Even his strikes at goal were like sidefooters. Watch him in training and he buries them.
"All round the park, if a defender won a header and knocked it into the middle of the park, Morton were the first to react. As a result we ended up giving a lot of fouls away. They didn't need to be fouls if we had been first to the ball but Morton were first to the ball and of course with us being slow to react and get there we ended up having to foul them after they had the initiative of getting on the ball first.
"We got what we deserved today. Morton deserved to win the game but as I said before the game nothing is decided after five or six games. It is going to be like that. It has been out poorest performance this season but now we need to show a bit of character to pick ourselves up going into the next few games. We need to get back winning two or three games."
