Thommo targets goal trail

Friday, 19th Sep 2014

Midfield is a more comfortable role for Ryan Thomson

Ryan Thomson was the last Dunfermline player to score a winning goal at Cappielow and having got off the mark last Saturday with the opening goal against Stenhousemuir the 23 year old midfielder is optimistic that he can keep his goal scoring going.

The match against Morton takes Ryan to a ground that he views as a tough one despite having good memories for Pars fans. His winner on his 22nd birthday ensured his first win in six matches against Morton and he remembers that this is never an easy fixture.

"It was always a hard game we got when they had boys like Tidser and Bachirou."

One Morton opponent that Ryan knows well is former team mate at East End Park, Andy Barrowman. Morton is the 29 year old striker's 13th club and Thommo spoke of his friend who was a Dunfermline player from July 2011 until the club went into administration in April 2013:- "I get on well with Barra, he is a good player and it will be good to see him but we need to to mark him closely I am sure that the boys at the back will do their job.

"Robbie Crawford and Conor Pepper have been brought in and they should be a good team. We will need to be careful but we are confident of our ability and we are starting to get into a bit of form.

"Morton are the only other full time team in the league, so it will be good to see what they are like. I don't know much about them to be honest. If we can win it will put a marker down for the season.

"My season has started slowly after picking up an injury in the first game and was out for the first league game against Brechin City. Getting back into the team was a hard one but since starting in the last two games I am feeling a bit sharper and fitter again."

Thommo is one of several Pars players who is conscious that personal form is very important and that even given that and his 123 appearances for the Pars, the management team will go with 'horses for courses'.

"I just have to accept whatever team the gaffer goes with. I want to be in the team every week and hopefully I can."
