Michael Moffat sealed Dunfermline's win over Stenhousemuir on Saturday with an 84th minute spot kick. The Pars striker seized the chance to take the penalty although in the absence of possible penalty taker Ross Millen, his co striker Chigozie Ugwu also had his eye on the opportunity. Michael said:-
"I don't actually know who the penalty taker is here and was thinking on Friday night that we were due a penalty so I had planned to get the ball first. The big man was wanting to take it but I wasn't for having that. He told me to stick it away. It was good to get the goal, it clinched the game and the three points at the end of the day."
Between them Moffat and Ugwu have scored six goals in the last three games and there are signs that the partnership is beginning to form well:-
"We started off slowly since Gozie had not done much of a pre season but you can see in training and in the games that he is getting better. He is a handful for defenders and obviously the rewards are happening with the goals."
Michael was denied by the crossbar in the first half and he added:-
"I should have scored. There were a couple of bodies in front of me so I just tried to put it in the roof of the net but I should have stuck it away. I was glad when I got the chance to score the goal.
"I had a few chances in the first half but just didn't get the break of the ball. We knew that if we kept playing the way we were that we would get the goal. The first goal is so important in these games because teams will change their game plan and have a go. It gives you space in behind them and when you have big Ryan (Williamson) on the right hand side, you just give him the ball and he can run quite fast with it."
Michael feels that Ryan will always create good chances in games:-
"I wouldn't like to try and match him or chase after him because he is something else. Once he gets going I don't think anybody can catch him. At Stranraer he set up the goal for me and then against Stenhousemuir he has won the penalty for us. Hopefully he can keep doing it."
The first two league games produced just one point and the Pars hitman did not disagree that they just weren't good enough:-
"The performances were okay but the results weren't. After Forfar there were a few words said and we needed to go on a run. We didn't want to be playing catch up at any time in the season. It was important that we got some points on the board. That is three wins in a row now so that's us sitting top of the league."
Morton at Cappielow is the next league match and so Michael predicted a few tough games ahead:-
"We will go into these games with confidence but if we play the way that we have been doing, we will win more than we lose."
