Lewis Martin's Belgium report
Thursday, 14th Aug 2014Lewis Martin made his Scotland debut this week when he came on as a sub an hour into the Under 19 international friendly against Belgium.
The 18 year old from Bonnybridge was thrilled and described it as a great experience.
Squad manager Ricky Sbragia praised the Pars central defender for his game which Lewis himself was happy with. He told the website:-
"Belgium are one of the top teams at that age group, it was really tough against them but it was good. They had a player who plays in the Watford first team and he really stood out."
The squad stayed at a hotel in Glasgow on Sunday and travelled to London and then on to Belgium on Monday. In the absence this time of team mate Ryan Williamson, Lewis room shared with Aberdeen's Scott McKenna. Lewis continued:-
"I have done well so far with Scotland, I just need to keep it up because there are other games coming up with Scotland. I need to keep doing well at Dunfermline and hope that I can get a few more games at international level.
"Last year I trained in the under 18 squad but didn't really play games. Then I got called up to the under 19 age group, the one above. They had championships in May but I didn't get picked for that. Now I hope to get involved.
"There are European Championships coming up in October and Scotland is on a group with Lithuania, Finland and Norway.
The next friendly for the Scotland Under 19s will be against the Czech Republic at the start of September. This match will be played at Cappielow, Greenock.
