Manager Post Brechin City
Saturday, 9th Aug 2014Jim Jefferies laughed off the suggestion of Brechin City manager, Ray McKinnon that at no point did Dunfermline dominate play.
He chuckled when he responded:-
"It was total domination. They got behind the ball quickly. I don't think we played the ball quick enough like we did on Tuesday night. The players were saying that the surface was a little sticky. The rain before the game on Tuesday night made it zip a wee bit quicker which suited us.
"Brechin came here hoping that they could hit us on the break. They nearly did near the end when they hit the post. We had some chances and felt a bit aggrieved at half time with the referee. From the very first corner we got, we worked a wee set play and when Buchanan got round the back everybody saw the boy (foul) bar the referee.
"When Moffat was right through, he had the ball and he was taken clean out. There was a shout for a penalty there."

Ray McKinnon had obviously benefitted from watching Dunfermline play Raith Rovers in midweek. JJ continued:-
"Brechin got behind the ball and they were here to get a draw. To turn round and say that we didn't dominate is maybe a wee bit tongue in cheek. They did a job and they made it difficult for us.
"We had a couple of good chances. There were great balls into the box inviting someone to get on the end of them but it just wasn't to be. In a game like that, the longer the game goes they could steal one, and they almost did. It would have been a travesty had they won that game because they were so outplayed for most of the game."
Brechin City are experienced League One campaigners and the manager felt that this was a good example of how things would be in the 2014-2015 season:-
"We are not going to get to go and play. People will respect you and the club; we started the season really well and nobody will come here and make it easy for you. They get a lift playing here as well and I have said that many times. That is what it will be like.
"Maybe it will be better for us away from home when teams will maybe feel that they have to take the initiative and then come out. That will suit us fine but here we have to be patient."
Jefferies had told his players at the interval that one goal might be enough to take the three points from the match. He felt that is what it looked like.
"They have some experience at the back. It held firm and anytime we did get through Graeme Smith did well. Our goalie has not made a save apart from the last shot from outside the box. You would expect Ryan Scully to make that but Graeme Smith has pulled off three great saves. Ross Forbes free kick and then a top corner all the way from Lewis Spence. He hit it perfectly to the top corner and what a save it was. That is what he is there for.
"Today was a bit frustrating but there is no way I am going to have a go at the players. They gave everything, tried to play the right way. Maybe later on in the game they need to learn that you cannot always do that. You have to get the ball forward early if the game is not going your way. There were a couple of free kicks that they were switching."
The Manager had some specific comment about the referee Ewan Anderson regards some of the decisions given against the Pars new striker Chigozie Ugwu.
"You can see he is a big man. The last decision there when the right back hesitated, it just bounced off him, he did not get fouled."
