Hoping for Belgian blue
Friday, 8th Aug 2014Dunfermline centre back Lewis Martin is hoping to win his first cap after being called up to the Scotland Under 19 squad.
This topped a great week for the 18 year old who partnered Gregor Buchanan in the centre of the Pars defence on both the cup ties against Annan Athletic and Raith Rovers.
His presence in the Pars first team has continued from last season and that has not gone unnoticed by national coach Ricky Sbragia who takes the team to Tubize for one match on Tuesday evening.
Lewis revealed that he had received an email prior to leaving for the match against Raith and getting on the scoresheet against Annan means that things can't really get much better for the young man from Bonnybridge. He added:-
"We are undefeated so far this season which is good, although I got a bit lucky with my goal on Saturday. Against Raith we defended well, worked together and got through to the end, so it was a clean sheet for us.
"Gregor is brilliant in there; he's great in the air and I've got a good partnership with him which will continue to grow. So far I have a shirt in the team, and after I got in at the end of last season I worked hard in pre-season and tried to make sure I had the jersey when we came back.
"If we can take those performances into the Brechin game then hopefully we can get a win."
Team mate Ryan Williamson is on standby for the international friendly match in Belgium. Delighted as Jim Jefferies was for Lewis, his reaction was as much of a disappointment that Williamson wasn't selected for the trip too. He commented "I thought Ryan was outstanding against Annan."
