Signed in August 1959 from Bo'ness United, Dave made only 12 appearances for the Pars before his transfer to Leicester City for £8,000 six days before the start of season 1961-62. The fee was a record for the club at the time. He scored just 6 goals for the Pars, including the first against Celtic in the 1961 Scottish Cup Final replay.
Primarily a reserve player, Dave first came to the attention of Leicester City manager, Matt Gillies, when the teams met in floodlight friendly, in September 1960.
Dave played in two of the eight 1960-61 Scottish Cup ties, the replays against St Mirren and Celtic.
