Gregor Buchanan signs for the Pars
Wednesday, 28th May 2014"Dunfermline will be my first full time club; it is what I have wanted to do since I was a wee boy. I am absolutely delighted to get it done.
Gregor Buchanan has signed for Dunfermline on a one year full time deal from fellow League One side Airdrieonians. The central defender told this website:-
"Dunfermline will be my first full time club; it is what I have wanted to do since I was a wee boy. I am absolutely delighted to get it done.
Gregor made 66 appearances during his two seasons at Airdrie and enjoyed being at the club:-
"We had a good end to last season when we went on a great run but this is a new challenge and full time football is what I was wanting. It is a great club to sign for."
Commenting on his experiences as an opponent coming to play Dunfermline at home, the twenty four year old said:-
"It was great coming to play at East End Park, it is a great place to play football. I think a lot of teams get a lift when they come here just because of the surroundings. To be here as a home team is going to be very exciting."
As well as joining from Airdrie Gregor hails from Falkirk and so expects stick initially and from his friends back home. He fully understands the feelings Pars fans have for the Diamonds:-
"It's because we both went down in the Championship year and we beat them on the final day causing them to go into the play offs. Now I am playing in the other team so I just want to get going now."
Gregor admitted to being excited when the offer was made by Dunfermline. His respect for the experienced management team helped his decision:-
"I spoke to both Jim and Neil at length and it all seemed like a perfect fit. I am delighted to be here."
That delight was also felt by Jim Jefferies who described what he saw in the player who stepped up from the junior ranks at Armadale and Bathgate Juniors to break through with Airdrie:-
"Gregor Buchanan is a young player who was part of a very solid defensive performance from Airdrie at the back end of the season. He is a good commanding centre half who is capable on the deck with the ball. He reads it well, is a good competitor and is only young at 24 years of age. We are really happy to get him and we need to take advantage of the freedom of contract."
"I told the board that we are looking for a central defender, two strikers and a wide player. I have got one striker and the central defender and we are close to getting another player. That's all we want. If we get the other boys that we have targeted we will have strengthened well. We are very comfortably off in midfield and I am happy with the rest of the boys.
"Kerr Young has now accepted the offer that he was made; he had a good finish to the season. Ryan Scully has signed for Partick and there could be a deal for him to come out on loan again. Everything has gone well and its time to forget what happened. There is no Rangers in the division so we will be one of the favourites along with Morton and one or two other teams.
"For all the disappointment of not going up I think, if we reflect on the season, the team played some great football - worked their socks off. People gave us a lot of praise for enjoyable games, admiring the way that we tried to play.
"We need to get on track by making signings that mean we are not going to sit back and do nothing. We will strengthen the team and go again."
