Smith saddles the winner

Network Rail and the Scottish Government are committed to a spend of £294 million at 2012 prices, and that will put an end to Josh Falkingham's jibes that the Scottish Borders is a backwater still dependent on horses for transport. Pars striker Allan Smith hails from Selkirk and Josh's baiting was always going to be the subject of his next goal celebration, the only trouble was getting enough game time to get himself on the scoresheet.

Allan Smith celebrates

After warming the subs bench for the last eleven matches with nine appearances Allan was handed his tenth start but first of the season against Stenhousemuir on Saturday but it took until the second minute of added time before he hit the net. With the teams tied on two goals each however the Borderers strike was a dramatic winner. He explained why he ended up horsing around:-

"The fans got their monies worth in this game. I thought from start to finish we dominated but we have a bad habit of going one down.

"I am glad that I got my first start and thankfully it paid off with my goal at the end.

"It was because Josh Falkingham says that the Borders are like horse and carriage country with no train stations, so I just thought that I'd be a wee jockey there and show how it is done. It was pre planned.

Allan Smith celebration routine

"I always expect to score and I did against Stenny. It was an exciting finish, I am glad that I got the goal. Overall the team did well and we got the three points, that's all that matters.

"I had a chance when I should have gone wide and then fired it long to the back post. I cut inside too much but thankfully at the end I had a one two with Kerr Young. I just took a touch and hit it and luckily it went in."

Allan Smith shoots in the winner

The nineteen year old was saving his family celebration until he met up with them at the green bowls on Sunday but he admitted he felt over the moon:-

"I am just delighted to get back playing ninety minutes instead of coming on as a sub. I am happy with how I am doing and hope I can score in the next game."

Allan's only other goal of the season was also against Stenhousemuir. That was at Ochilview Park in August when he came on in 79th minute 4-2 down. Allan scored within five minutes and then Dunfermline went on to score twice before the end to leave with a 5-4 win. Oh how Stenhousemuir must hate the way Dunfermline have finished matches against them.
