Byrne wings it
Sunday, 10th Nov 2013"I scuffed it a wee bit to be honest but thankfully it went into the bottom corner."
Shaun Byrne's 37th minute goal against Stenhousemuir was just his second in senior football and his first since getting off the mark against Arbroath back on 17th August this year. He has felt that maybe he should have notched a few more and has recently promised to shoot more often. He told the post match interview:-
"I have been getting a bit of stick from everybody for not having as many shots as I probably should. I got past the boy and thought 'just hit it'. I scuffed it a wee bit to be honest but thankfully it went into the bottom corner."
Shaun had a chance just eight minutes later but Chris Smith denied him:-
"The next one I hit it sweeter but the keeper made a good save."
The Pars gave themselves their all too frequent tough start and had not only to comeback from 0-1 down but also from 1-2:-
"We must like giving teams a goal start and making it hard for ourselves. It shows the character that we have got in the team to come back every week. None of us hide away from the ball, everybody sticks together and our play definitely deserved to win.
"We are always confident that we are going to win but they set out to frustrate us as most teams have done this season. They were pretty dangerous on the counterattack but I thought we passed the ball brilliantly today. We made a good few opportunities and should have scored other goals as well but just delighted to get the win."
The penalty awarded midway through the second half paved the way for the comeback. Ryan Wallace pushed the ball on in a challenge from David Rowson but Sean Dickson's outstretched leg took the Pars striker down. Shaun told it as he saw it:-
"There were a lot of bodies in there and I just saw Wallace knock the ball past the boy. He went down but I never really saw it, Wallace said that the boy tripped him up. There were no arguments this week over who was taking the penalty, Jordan Moore wasn't on the park this time. I don't think Ryan was very happy last time but the important thing was Jordan scored.
"We would have been disappointed if we had only got a draw because we dominated the game from the start to finish. I was delighted for Allan to score his goal, he has been working hard lately. He has not been playing, just coming off the bench so delighted for him to score the winner.
"I am really enjoying playing just now, I am confident and just hope that I can stay in the team."
The 20 year old midfielder has been critical of other team mates goal celebrations but after not knowing what to do first time around he adopted the wings celebration for his second.
