The Hairy Strikers
Sunday, 3rd Nov 2013Dunfermline Athletic players will be taking part in charitable growing during Movember.
Twelve Dunfermline Athletic players will be taking part in charitable growing during Movember. Captain Josh Falkingham is co-ordinating the effort even though he knows that he will not be the leader when it comes to cultivating facial hair.
The players have chosen to down razor blades during November to raise money for the Childrens Hospice Scotland that is based in Kinross.
Josh explained how this came about:-
"We have been up to CHAS a couple of times and I just thought it was a good thing to do for the children up there. We will let Callum Morris off since he has obviously grown a tash recently and kept it. This has all come from that. Movember comes around every year; a couple of them did it last year but if you are going to do it for fun I think it is better to have a reason.
"If we can raise any sort of money with the help of the fans then it is all for a good cause. CHAS is something that we feel strongly about and there is a connection there with what they have done for us recently sponsoring the shirts. It is a good cause and a bit of a laugh."
The competitive spirit to see who might grow the best moustache is hampered by some players for whom facial hair does not grow strongly. Josh admitterd to being in that category:-
"Theres a couple of boys like myself who do not really grow a great one. We don't have too many older boys in here anymore but I have managed to get John Potter involved and there is a famous photo of him with one on; I have that in the locker and I am hoping one day to see that again and maybe on the pitch."

Club photographer Craig Brown will take weekly photos of the participants and updates will be shown on this website. Players were asked to be clean shaven for starting pictures on Halloween but several started early, presumably because they needed extra growing time so instead their squad pictures taken in August will be a starter for comparison later in the month.
A list of players taking part as are follows:- Ryan Scully, Alex Whittle, Kerr Young, Andy Geggan, Shaun Byrne, Ryan Wallace, Josh Falkingham, Ryan Thomson, El Bakhtaoui Fayssal, Allan Smith, Ryan Ferguson, Ross Drummond, Ryan Goodfellow, as well as coaches John Potter and Physio Kenny Murray.
