Debut Goal for Whittle
Sunday, 29th Sep 2013"I was delighted to get my first goal for the club, it is one to remember.
Dunfermline went into the lead on Saturday as a consequence of a "rasper" of a finish from Alex Whittle on the half hour. After the match Alex proudly talked through his first senior goal which was a fantastic striker from 22 yards and his somewhat unorthidox celebration:-
"I was delighted to get my first goal for the club, it is one to remember. I thought it was going over at first but it just dipped at the last minute to go in. I produce a few like that in training and the gaffer was keen for me to have a go.
"There were a lot of good goals today. Before the game the gaffer and Neil McCann said that there would come a time when we would batter a team. We took all our chances, Josh's goal wasn't a bad goal either, Andy Geggan's was good from a good team move, Ryan Wallace's finish with his left foot was good as well to be honest. It has been coming that we were going to batter someone like 5-1. We could have got more maybe but they had a couple of chances too.
"There have been a lot of tight games but we have been creating lots of chances in them. Against Ayr we finally took them all."
It may have been Alex first goal but given that he had rehearsed his celebration obviously more work is required on that. Resembling the efforts of someone likely to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing in the first week Alex explained the drill:-
"Me and Stephen Husband had the celebration ready for when I finally scored. That is why I called Hubby over like that."
Alex had been a doubt prior to the match having picked up a knock in training through the week so after feeling a slight groin strain he was withdrawn immediately after he set up Ryan Wallace's second goal in 65th minute. Asked if he had come off to a standing ovation before Alex modestly admitted
"Yes I have come off to a couple!" Well here's to some more like that!
