?133,000 for Pars United
Thursday, 26th Sep 2013Pars Supporters Trust hands over £133,000
Saturday saw one of the most significant gestures by fans of Dunfermline Athletic as the Pars Supporters Trust's Margaret Ross and Andrew Bailey where joined on the East End Park pitch by Stephen Blance, the first Pars fan to donate to Buy the Pars, to hand over a cheque for £133,000 to Pars United's Bob Garmony. It was the fans' latest contribution towards the survival of their beloved Pars. The money represents the current total donated by fans of the cash strapped club via the fund raising website buythepars.org which is administered by the Pars Supporters' Trust |
After entering Administration earlier this year causing several of first team stars to be made redundant, the Pars then found themselves relegated to the third tier of Scottish football following a points deduction penalty imposed by the Scottish League authorities. But fans group Pars United launched a campaign to buy the 128 year old Club from Administrator BDO with a target objective of raising £500,000, £100,000 of which, it was hoped, would come from the fans with the remainder being provided by Pars Patrons. However, having already contributed somewhere in the region of £165,000 just to keep the Club going through the Administration period, the fans somehow managed to raise a further £133,000 as their contribution towards the purchase of the Club, 1/3 more than had been expected. |
Chair of the Pars Supporters' Trust, Margaret Ross said:- "Our fans continue to amaze us. Not only with their unbelievable generosity but also with the fund raising initiatives they continue to come up with. Our vision has always been to have a Community owned football club that could be governed by the fans and with this sort of contribution to the fund for buying the Club, we believe the fans should be significantly represented at Board level. "This has been an incredible effort by the fans. We shouldn't underestimate what has been achieved so far and everyone should be rightly proud. We should never lose sight of what these amazing supporters have done and of what we've collectively done for our Club and our community". |
