Stephen Husband says why not?
Monday, 23rd Sep 2013"It was right in line with the middle of the goals and it would give the keeper a problem if it was on target.
Airdrie have lost a free kick to Stephen Husband before but they were taken by surprise again when Jimmy Boyle's side were the visitors on Saturday. He related how he saw the opportunity:- "It was right in line with the middle of the goals and it would give the keeper a problem if it was on target. I thought 'why not? Have a go, see what happens'. It took a wee deflection but it was on target anyway. The keeper was diving to his left to save it but it went in on his right hand side."
It was a great shame that Stephen's goal that gave the Pars a 56th minute advantage lasted for only 65 seconds. Airdrieonians striker, Liam Coogans continued his record of goals at East End Park by hitting right back with the equaliser:-
"The gaffer said that the most important period is the five minutes after you score a goal. We conceded a goal straight away and the game began to get a bit scrappy. We managed to get the ball down, settled and went again and got the winner. It was deserved in the end I think."
The Lanarkshire side got a lift from their equaliser and for a short spell certainly looked like they had the belief that they could win again. David Sinclair could have done better when a chance fell to him and there was a chance for Martin Hardie from a cross to the back post from the left. Stephen continued:
"With them scoring so quickly it was an up and then a down for us. The main thing was just to get back to getting the ball back, start passing and we did that pretty quickly.
"The winning goal was a scramble and I just wanted someone to put it in the net. Andy Geggan has been on fire this season and he has managed to grab the goal with a good strike and finish. Two of us had a shot already and it just broke to Geggs and it hit the net. That's all that mattered, we got the three points.
"Having scored the first goal and conceded right after it, the game was not in the bag it only takes a second to score a goal. The main thing was to keep it tight which we did and held on to the end."
