Manager Post Falkirk
Tuesday, 27th Aug 201327/08/13: JJ - ""I am just disappointed with the result because I do not think we deserved to lose ...
Jim Jefferies was pleased with the performance against Falkirk but unhappy with the result:-
"I thought we looked the First division team to be honest over the ninety minutes. We started the game great, took the game to them and they were looking a bit uncomfortable. Then they got a goal against the run of play with an o.g. that's how it sometimes goes for us at times. But we got a great response from them and they equalised with a great goal.
"There was one free kick came in that Wallace brought a great save out of the keeper but there was an opportunity there to snatch up the rebound but we didn't do it. There were some good chances and then in the first half hour of the second half we completely dominated. We took the game to them, played some great stuff and got in behind them a lot of times. It was just the finish that wasn't there. If our finishing had been like on Saturday we would be in the next round of the cup, there is no doubt about that.
"How can I not be pleased with the effort of the players and the way that they played. That does not always win games, you have to put the ball in the net. Falkirk did that twice and got a helping hand. We didn't put it away when some good opportunities came along, especially in that opening half hour of the second half when we played some really good flowing football. We were getting people on the ball but we just lacked the finish. If we keep playing like that we are going to give somebody a hiding when the ball goes in the net.
"We have been saying all season that we are going to make mistakes at the back but hopefully sometimes we will get away with them. If it is not them putting it in our net, we are put it in the net ourselves to make it difficult for us. I don't think anybody at this Club can complain about the effort and commitment of this team and the spirit and desire that they have. It was all there tonight again, it was just the finishing that was missing in the final third."
The Manager was pleased with good individual performances and Josh Falkingham got a special mention:-
"Wee Josh was immense. I used him as an example at half time, I said they should take a leaf out of the wee man's book. He was everywhere biting away, winning - he is an inspirational little character. That laddie is good enough to play at a higher level, there is no doubt about that but while he is here if he keeps playing like that he will be a lesson to all of them.
"I thought Alex Whittle played well again tonight, Luke Johnston came in for his first game and okay it is not an easy time to come in. Jordan Moore is a young kid who is a talented boy, he maybe just over elaborates at times tonight. There was one in the first half where I was saying 'go on shoot' and he wanted to take more and more people on. When you get that chance to finish it, you have to take the opportunity but that's just lack of experience. That will all come as he gets a bit older and wiser.
"I am really pleased with the way they went about their business tonight. With it being our fourth game (in ten days) I thought we tired a bit in the last ten to fifteen minutes. We ran out of steam a wee bit. Remember Stephen Husband had a good game tonight but it was his first start having missed four games. He came on as sub on Saturday but it was obvious he was running out of steam because he put a power of work in. Shaun was there to come on.
"I am just disappointed with the result because I do not think we deserved to lose but if you cannot put the ball in the net that will happen."
