John Potter post U20s win
Monday, 26th Aug 2013They have been exciting games; two wins against two very good teams - St Mirren and Motherwell. They are all happy in there."
Three league games, eleven goals scored, ten goal conceded. After a 4-3 win over Motherwell, under 20s coach John Potter gave his thoughts to the website:-
"I thought we were great after a dodgy start when James Washburn made a mistake and we were a goal down after just a minute. We were excellent for thirty minutes, passed it really well and scored goals. We were the better team until right at the end of the first half when we lost another sloppy goal;. It was two mistakes and two goals."
The Pars coach was delighted with the way his side started the second half:-
"We came out and scored great goals again. They were created with brilliance but then all of a sudden we started to drift back a bit and got a bit tired near the end because we did work hard. I think we lost it a bit when I brought Ryan Ferguson off and lost it a bit for ten minutes.
"We lost a third goal and hung on a bit at the end. Credit to them we were a threat going forward but defensively there is still a lot of things to work on."
The defensive frailties were counteracted by goalscoring that won the match in the end and John Potter praised the danger and two goals created by trialist Robert Thomson-
"He could have had four or five; he had one that hit the post and two or three shots. He was excellent and a handful all night. He has been great and a buzz since coming into the under 20s. He leads the line well, works hard and is a threat all night long. Him and Fayssal were a constant threat up front, linked really well and scored good goals."
Hard work is all Potts could suggest as a remedy to the leaks in defence:-
"The kids will learn two defenders are just seventeen, James has just arrived at the Club and is new. Ross Drummond has a bit more experience so maybe need to get more from him. It is not just them. Midfield needs to help more as well, it is everybody and just the wee mistakes. It is costing us and the first team as well at the moment. You make mistakes, you get punished so there is lots of work to do but they are hard working and want to get better."
The mood in the camp is good after two wins and a narrow away defeat to Rangers:-
"They have been exciting games; two wins against two very good teams - St Mirren and Motherwell. They are all happy in there."
