Jim Jefferies pleased for Gerry

Gerry McCabe has joined up with former Pars boss Jim McIntyre at Queen of the South

Dunfermline boss, Jim Jefferies will be lifting the phone and wishing his former assistant Gerry McCabe all the best in his new job as assistant to Jim McIntyre at Queen of the South. Speaking exclusively to the website Jim said:-

"Gerry is terrific and it was sad when he had to leave. I enjoyed working with Gerry, I had known him for a long time in the game. I had never worked with him before but we got on fine and he was a big help. His departure was just one of the sad things to come out of the administration. We lost a lot of experienced players but we lost Gerry's experience as well.

"It probably didn't help his cause that Neil McCann was helping us on a voluntary basis. That wasn't costing the administrator anything and Gerry was in the unfortunate position because he was employed. It was sad for everybody who had to leave, you would have liked to have kept everybody.

"We kept in touch, he came to a couple of games but it must have been difficult for him. He did a couple of spying missions on opponents, we have always kept in touch and I am going to give him a ring and wish him all the best.

"When I heard that Jim (McIntyre) had been appointed I immediately thought that the obvious thing to do would be to work with Gerry again because he knows a lot about that division. He worked with Jim well and I am glad to see Gerry getting back in the game.

"Queen of the South stayed full time last season so it looks like it will be a full time position and I hope it is. He is a football guy and has been in the game a long time. He knows it well - that will be why he picks him - and he is very good and popular with the players in the dressing room and those at the club. I am delighted that he has this chance to get back into it because it is not easy when you see a lot of people out of jobs.

"He knew that Jim was always destined to get a job and he has to go and start somewhere else. It is a good opportunity, Queen of the South are a forward thinking club. They have been left with a good squad of players and it is good for the club that they have secured a good manager who knows how to do well in the First Division. That could be invaluable to them."
