Hubby Spot On
Sunday, 21st Apr 2013"I narrowed down the options and thought right down the middle it is.
Saturday's spot kick hero Stephen Husband was very aware that the last penalty that he missed was against Cowdenbeath so his choice on this occasion was to smash the ball straight down the middle
"Last time I put it to his left and I think their manager gave him instructions on where I was going to put it. I narrowed down the options and thought right down the middle it is. He got a hand to it but wasn't able to keep it out. I hit it hard enough to force the keeper into needing a good save. Fortunately he wasn't able to do that and fortunately for us it hit the net."
The penalty kick midway through the second half came after Cowdenbeath's newly introduced substitute Kyle Miller seemingly needlessly took down Pars striker Allan Smith. The 19 year old was actually going away from goal but the incident was right in front of referee Steven McLean and he immediately made the award.
At the age of 22, Stephen Husband was the third oldest in the side and had no difficulty in pulling rank and experience to have the honour of taking the penalty.
"I like that kind of pressure and I like to take the pressure off all the young players. I was just glad I scored and got the three points, that was the main thing."
He joked about the veteran in the side that had an average starting age of 20 years and 239 days.
"They are not kids anymore. We are learning earlier and they are learning just as much as us. They are doing great and all credit to them for what was a great team performance. We held it well and managed to get the goal.
"We have the advantage of goal difference and it is only ours to throw away in the last two games. We have got Partick away next Saturday which is a tough place to win. I know that they have already won the league but they might give boys a chance who are trying to prove things. "
The match winner warned about considering Partick Thistle as an easy game just because they might have over celebrated their campaign success by winning at The Falkirk Stadium:-
"You can't count on points like that. For me we still have another cup final to play before the end of the season. It was a hard one against Cowdenbeath but that's one down. "
