Josh due the fans a result

Thursday, 18th Apr 2013

"A big crowd and atmosphere can have a massive effect on us. I ask as many people as possible to come out and watch us ...

Josh Falkingham

Having lost out to Dumbarton last year when playing for Arbroath, the Pars captain Josh Falkingham is keen to avoid being involved in the First Division play-offs for the second year running. So keen that the normal free flowing wordsmith did not want to discuss it.

Josh is keen to build on what was described as one of the most important results of the season last Saturday - the 1-0 win in Greenock over Morton. He felt that after all the things that had gone on in the build up, to go to a place where nobody held up much hope for them and get the result was remarkable:-

"We had a team of young boys but we now need to call them first team players. Only myself, Thommo and John Potter were older than required for an under 20 team. We were fighting for our lives but to beat Morton was sweet.

"This Saturday against Cowdenbeath is a different scenario and must be one of the biggest derbies in the history of the two teams meeting. The situation with being in administration means that to stay in the First Division is absolutely vital for this football club. It was a great one when Dunfermline beat Raith to be promoted but this is a game where, if we do win it, it gives us the best possible chance of survival. I know that there are play offs but we do not want to even mention that."

The Yorkshireman has a 'history' with Cowdenbeath fans and would prefer not to be facing Cowdenbeath again next season:-

"I am desperate to win and hopefully all the boys go into it with belief that we can win on Saturday. We are hoping for the biggest crowd of the season, that would be fantastic.

"A big crowd and atmosphere can have a massive effect on us. I ask as many people as possible to come out and watch us. The fans have been brilliant, not just for myself but for the team. It's now or never really."

Josh won the Scottish Third Division with Arbroath two seasons ago but finished second in last seasons' Second Division and consequently experienced play offs for the first time in his football career. He added:-

"In Play Offs it is all about mentality but this Saturday is a big, big game and I cannot stress that enough. We need to focus on doing the right things on a football pitch, take the mentality from the Morton game into this game and hopefully the fans will be there to cheer us on. It is incredible that we have not won a home game since Raith Rovers at the turn of the year. The fans have done well for us, clapping us off at half time when 4-0 down but now we are due the fans one."
