With players from the U20s squad required to fill the first team gaps left by the departure of players disposed off by the Interim Administrator, it was a much changed Dunfermline side that faced Dundee on Wednesday afternoon. The visitors followed up their Monday night win over Falkirk with another impressive display but they had the advantage of being able to call in experienced players like Mark Stewart and the 36 year old Matt Lockwood.
Dundee opened the scoring midway through the first half through Craig SMITH with a shot from the apex of the box that went across Ryan Goodfellow to find the net. It was a further two goals in two minutes that knocked the stuffing out of John Potter's makeshift team. Kevin BUCHAN did the damage ten minutes before the break with the double and was to complete his hattrick when he added another ten minutes into the second half.
Dunfermline battled away but failed to compete with a slicker opposition who finished off with another goal two minutes from time. Potter felt that tackles and headers just didn't work out in the first half and as soon as Dundee went 3-0 up the game was effectively over. He finished the game with a 15 year old, four 16 year olds, a couple of 17 year olds and he knows that while his normal charges are missing, this will be the reality as the U20s fulfil their fixtures backlog.
