Our man in the stand
Sunday, 31st Mar 2013Gerry McCabe turns out to continue to help the Pars.
The day after being dismissed by the Interim Administrator, Gerry McCabe was still supporting Dunfermline and present at Livingston to help wherever the now former Assistant Manager could. Jim Jefferies discussed the loss:-
"It was a blow to lose Gerry on Friday but he was at our game on Saturday. You could see what it means to him and it was great to see him. I said to him 'now that you are not on the books, if you are not doing anything come and keep your hand in. Gerry was in the stand. He cannot be in the dugout because he is away but he is going to sit in the stand, spot things and come down at half time.
"It doesn't matter if he is not getting paid by the Club, he is prepared to do that. It speaks volumes for the type of guy he is and that's why I was really keen to keep him but it is finances that determine it that's all."
Jefferies feels that the experienced Dunfermline players who were made redundant on 28th March will be snapped up by other clubs and they have left a legacy in the young players who will have to see the season out:-
"These players helped the young boys. I have had it before with experienced players, they can sometimes look after themselves, get on at the youngsters and they can get frustrated with the youngsters mistakes. But these boys were never like that when we went down this road of bringing three or four young boys at a time into training to make up the numbers.
"All these boys helped them - Barrowman, Kirk, Dowie and the others. They just got on with it, encouraged them and they have played a part. I told them to go out and thank them by carrying on and getting a result. This is the next stage and we just have to get on with it now."
With the departure of Jordan McMillan, Josh Falkingham captained the side against Livingston. The Manager admitted that he,had had other ideas:-
"I was going to give it to Andy Geggan but with him being injured I gave it to Josh, I might leave it or I might give them a shot each. Josh relished getting the armband so we might swap it about for the six games but he certainly did well against Livingston."
