Coach leaves the Pars

Dunfermline Assistant Manager Gerry McCabe is the latest victim of the Interim Administrator's axe. Gerry was brought to East End Park by Jim McIntyre in January 2008 to be his number two. Macca had known Gerry from his days at Kilmarnock and he recognised the coaching abilities of the always upbeat and joke cracking McCabe.
Gerry McCabe had a good career as a player, spanning almost 20 years from 1977 to 1997. Gerry played for Clyde, Hamilton, Dumbarton and Arbroath, but his most impressive role was in a seven year spell with a rising Clydebank side who, with players like Gerry and Davie Cooper had a meteoric rise through the divisions in Scottish football to the Premier League. He was named First Division Player of the Year three years running in 1982/83, 83/84 and 84/85.
Gerry's first coaching experience had been as a youth coach at Celtic whilst still playing for Arbroath in 1995. Shortly afterwards he joined Bobby Williamson at Kilmarnock as his assistant manager. The partnership would last for many years with the two moving to Hibs and then Plymouth Argyle. In 2006 he took up the position of manager at Scottish Third Division side Dumbarton, narrowly missing a promotion play-off place by finishing fifth in the league.
The 56 year old's cheerful disposition will be sadly missed around Pitreavie and East End Park but there will be more chocolate to go around! Thank you Gerry and good luck.
