Kane proves very able

Chris Kane made only his second start for Dunfermline on Saturday but Jim Jefferies confessed that the 19 year old was in his thoughts from the Monday morning after the Cup knock out at the hands of Hamilton Accies the previous week. After starting against Partick Thistle in November in a totally new left back role Chris explained how he felt as his turn eventually came around:-
"He has kept me hungry to be fair, I have been benched out but he is an experienced manager. He has seen me nipping at ankles in training and seen that I am hungry and maybe that is what we needed against Hamilton. The team played extremely well in the first half and battled in the second so we all deserve it together."
So should Jim Jefferies be regretting not playing Chris in his midfield role before February?
"No. I am maybe not a left back but these things happen and I am just happy to play the way I did today.
"I have been patient and training hard so it is nice on a personal note to play and to play a part for the team to get back to winning ways. When I came here it was to come and get games but that has not exactly worked out straight away. I have had to battle and work hard in training to get in about the team.
"I am not setting any targets for myself, the Manager knows that I can do a shift for the team. If I am needed then I will play. I am hoping to play a part in the second half of the season but I will not get carried away with it.
"We started giving the ball away a bit, that's Scottish football for you - it is not about flash football, it is about digging in and defending hard. I think we showed that today. The centre backs were brilliant, worked really hard and did us well today."
The Pars second goal from a Ryan Wallace corner was celebrated by Chris as he had scored it and it certainly looked like that. Hamilton boss Billy Reid had speculated that the touch came off his second half sub, Andy Ryan but Chris claimed that he definitely got a touch on it.
"Whether it took a deflection on the way in I will claim that one until the cows come home. I definitely got a connection on it and I am happy to take any goal. I headed it towards the goal."
The substitution in the first half of Stephen Jordan released Chris from his defensive role at attacking corners and that paid off with the goal that eventually separated the teams:-
"I was a bit disappointed at the start to be held back for corners but that is my defensive duty. I was delighted to get up there and hopefully that is the first of many more for Dunfermline. I was not renowned for scoring when at Hearts under 19s, I scored a couple of headers but not a lot. I hope to be involved on Tuesday night if I am selected then it will be the same again, I will give my all."
